Handmade in Kenya

SKU: S6318

These star ornaments are made from ceramic clay, formed by hand for a unique touch.  Hang them up on decorative branches, doors, windows, or Christmas trees. You can also remove the ribbon and place the ornaments around the table to create a festive table setting.

Our ceramic ornaments are made by Gololi crafts, a social enterprise in Kenya, that employs young women and widows to make handicrafts made from locally sourced eco-friendly materials. Read more about how our ornaments are made.

Each ornament is individually packaged in a beautiful box.

Handmade

At Mifuko, we are proud to offer handmade products crafted by talented artisans from rural communities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Ghana. By choosing Mifuko, you are supporting Fair Trade principles and helping these skilled artisans earn a better livelihood while preserving local craft traditions.

As a certified member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), we are committed to putting people and the planet first in everything we do.

Each Mifuko product is unique and carries the name of its maker.

The story of two friends

Mifuko was founded in 2009 by two Finnish designers, Minna and Mari. The idea for Mifuko was born at a market in Nairobi, Kenya, where Kiondo basket weaving is a traditional craft. Minna and Mari were amazed by the craftsmanship of local artisans and wanted to share it with a wider audience.

Mifuko was founded with a clear objective: to combine Nordic design and traditional African handicraft into a business that directly benefits rural Kenyan women and their communities. In Swahili, “mifuko” means pocket, and we make sure that no one's pocket is left empty.

Radically sustainable

We at Mifuko have been radically sustainable from the beginning, striving for sustainability in everything we do. We are determined to be a part of building
a better, sustainable future. We want to contribute to solving the issues humanity faces, such as poverty, gender inequality, pollution, and loss of biodiversity.
