Mifuko is a proud member of World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO), the highly regarded global community of social enterprises that practice Fair Trade. WFTO members must demonstrate they put people and the planet first, adhering to the WFTO Fair Trade Principles.

The WFTO Guarantee System (GS) combines Fair Trade and social enterprise verification into one. It is built to verify that an enterprise is mission-led, focused on the interests of its producers, and this is in the structure, systems and practices of the enterprise. It was created by experts and pioneers from the Fair Trade movement so as to be credible, clear, and affordable. In contrast to commodity certifiers, the WFTO Guarantee System assesses the entirety of a business, not just a specific product, ingredient or supply chain. It includes an assessment of the enterprise’s structure and business model, its operations and its supply chains. (wfto.com).

To us, fair trade means that we have committed to putting people and the planet first in everything we do. To comply with the fair trade principles, we take a broad approach to sustainability in our business and address all aspects: social, economic and environmental impact. Compliance with WFTO's Fair Trade Standard is assessed by various means, including detailed self-assessment reports, peer visits, and monitoring audits. Demonstrating compliance earns Fair Trade Enterprises the designation "Guaranteed Fair Trade".

To further support the social mission of Mifuko in the rural region of eastern Kenya, we established Mifuko Trust, an independent non-profit organisation that supports social advancement in sub-Saharan Africa. Mifuko Trust

Mifuko Trust was founded to tackle poverty and increase the well-being of our artisans.

Hanna Anonen won the Young Finnish Designer award in 2021 and no wonder since she has designed fun and colourful products for multiple Finnish brands. Anonen designed Mifuko's Kandili candle holder series which has five stackable models. We interviewed her about her design process and collaboration with Mifuko.

Christine, Florence, and Alice sat next to each other when all the weavers were gathered together. They started chatting and one thing led to the other, and now they are now practically inseparable.
